The Evening Herald and the Wicklow News report that cartoonist Terry Willers has died at the age of 76 at his home at Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow, where he organised the Guinness International Cartoon Festival for many years.
Born in the UK, Terry lived and worked in Ireland for over 40 years. According to Lambiek, he worked on newspaper strips in five different countries, as well as comics in the UK and Holland. In Ireland he drew cartoons for papers including the Farmers Journal, the Sunday Independent, the Evening Herald and the Wicklow People, as well as working on TV on Halls Pictorial Weekly and the Mike Murphy Show. The National Library of Ireland hold a collection of his cartoons, but he seems to have done most of his work before the advent of the internet, and very little of it is online. I’ve illustrated this with a detail from a book cover he illustrated.
