Dynamite Announce Some Books With Irish Creators

We love highlighting the work of independent creators but we also like to highlight Irish creators work in the US. Dynamite Entertainment has a bit of a history with Irish creators. Writer Michael Carroll worked on Jennifer Blood. Artists Ruairí Coleman and Stephen Downey worked on Turok. Colourists Chris O’Halloran and Triona Farrell have worked on a number of their titles. There are probably some I am forgetting. Anyway, they are continuing this history with the announcement of two new books.

Dynamite Entertainment and Ian Fleming Publications Ltd. are pleased to announce that superstar writer Declan Shalvey (Deadpool Vs. Old Man Logan, Savage Town) and artist PJ Holden (2000 AD, Judge Dredd) have been tapped to helm the latest entry into the James Bond universe with James Bond: M. The new one-shot will delve into the back-story of Bond’s superior, M, and his time in the field prior to his ascension as head of England’s MI6. The standalone story, which features 40-pages of heart-stopping international intrigue and espionage, is set for launch in February 2018!

James Bond’s superior, code-named M, scrambles MI6’s secret agents across the globe. Sometimes, he knowingly sends them to their deaths, for the greater good. But a traumatic event from M’s early days in the field returns to haunt him, forcing M to return to Belfast, the scene of a crime…HIS crime.

Dynamite Entertainment proudly brings together two of its bestselling brands for a horror/music extravaganza in KISS/Army of Darkness #1, the debut issue in a new comic book series uniting the legendary rock ‘n’ roll band with the comic industry’s grooviest of character! Written by Chad Bowers and Chris Sims (X-Men ’92, Deadpool) and illustrated by Ruairi Coleman (Star Wars: Rebels, TMNT Amazing Adventures), the KISS/Army of Darkness miniseries event is set to launch in February 2018.

KISS is on top of the world and rocking faces until the night disciples of The Destroyer show up and the band disappears. With the tour canceled, a young Ash misses one of the most important events of his life that will change his destiny. Now the Chosen One has to get back on the right path and join the KISS ARMY OF DARKNESS!

I think PJ Holden‘s art will really work in the James Bond universe. Not mentioned in the above release is that Dearbhla Kelly will be colouring the book. I can’t wait to see how that works. It will be interesting to see Declan Shalvey‘s take on 007 especially after reading Savage Town. The books aren’t worlds apart. The book being set in Belfast adds an interesting wrinkle. On the KISS/Army of Darkness book, I think Ruairí Coleman wins the pop culture contest as I am sure a number of Irish creators would give limb to work on an Army of Darkness book. I think his style will really suit this book.
