LONE STAR SOUL by Peter Campbell Lone Star Soul is Peter Campbells first graphic novel and features a heady mix of Sci-Fi and Western styles. It launched through Lone Star State Ltd earlier this year and made its debut feature at a comic convention back in June at the 2D Festival. We catch up with […]
Here is the audio from the Dundalk Writer’s Festival Comic Panel with Tommie Kelly, Alan Nolan, Hilary Lawler, Patrick Brown and Robert Curley. The audio is better is some places than others. The audience was about 99% non-comic readers which added a different feel to the talk in a really good way. It was very […]
Tommie Kelly (yup that’s me!), Rob Curley, Paddy Brown, Alan Nolan and Hilary Lawler have been asked to do a panel on Irish comics and graphic Novels as part of the Dundalk Book Festival. The comic panel is on Saturday afternoon (the 27th) and we have room for about 70 people or so. If you […]
VACATION!!…(nearly..) Over the last while the Irish Comic Noodlers has been running each week with a great range of art and doodle work from each of the daily artists. So as Autumn kicks in and schedules get way busier for each of us, The Noodles section for ICN will be taking a long deserved […]
If you were psychic or had ‘The Shinin’ you’d know what was coming…and if you’ve seen the movie then you definitely know what happens next. Stuck in a hotel, going mad, snowed in, The Shining is possibly one of the best films for contradictions in sheer tension and claustrophobia in a wide open space. Never […]
It’s easy to assume that what you see on tv ads was a polished and flawless performance that only took one take to get…behind the scenes is a totally different story though*. *(of course the lovely bendy lady in the advert has probably practiced lots and actually did a flawless performance.)
No kittens were harmed in the making of this comic page. Superhilbo released them back into the garden soon after having the tea and then some lunch and a light snack…and then some dinner…and 2nd dinner.
A slightly odd sketch book noodle this week…my mind was clearly on food…and lots of it. It would take too long to explain, but suffice to say I was watching some food programme while doodling and the results speak for themselves.
TEA BRIGADE 2 You never know what parts of the country, world or galaxy people can show up in, but if there is a whiff of tea to be had, the Tea Brigade will be there.
The Swimmer Used a combination of a background I had made and a brush pen sketch of a life drawing I had done, and then very quick finished the colours (rough) in corel.
Neptunes Daughter Old sketch from last year that I reworked and finished using pencil then pen, and then scanned and mucked about in Corel to get a textured finish.
The Nude Digital play noodle of a nude. Doodled with coloured pencil and conte in Corel, then had some fun with wallpaper I had made a while back and then applied a woodcut effect. Nice experiment with the same sketch shown with the focus aspect varied.
Random doodles from my sketch book this week.
‘Letting ideas out’ Experimenting this week with tesco marker brush pens, paper, and a crayola magic pen and paper thing. Messed about on the magic paper that removes black to reveal colour. Doodled some figures on lined paper and then put them all together and scanned in. Finished on corel with a simple back layer […]
NYX (Original cover art by Joshua Middleton) Pencil sketch, then felt pen and pantone markers for the background. Finished in Corel with some messing about with focus and opacity before using a detail airbrush for clarifying the colour of the eyes.
The Tea Brigade are a special breed. They know when there is free tea anywhere and can flash mob a place to devour the tea in a record breaking 0.5seconds…FACT*. Imagine if the world stopped having tea…you think Zombies are bad?…nah. (*may not actually be a fact but it can feel that way if you […]
Great big Happy Birthday to ICN! :)
Our friends at Longstone Comics are making two of their comics available for FREE this week! Longstone Comics Vol 4 is an anthology featuring work by Peter Loftus, Deirdre de Barra, Ian Pettitt and Hilary Lawler; Smiling at the Sky is an unsettling story of a Russian orphan with unexplained abilities, by Peter and Ian. […]
Some scanned in doodles this week as the original noodle idea for today got parked. Hero 108 and Ben 10 being watched a lot at the moment as I really love the action in these cartoons. The quality in the animation is fantastic.
Short on time this week after a lovely weekend of 2D Festival and meeting creative people that are just fantastic. It’s always a pleasure to be part of this festival. The catch up mode is in overdrive however, so a quick sketch of BEN 10 in his younger years was in order. Him and Scott […]
Quick doodle this week with a theme along the lines of restless sleep and what emerges from the shadows. A good tune can go a long way to helping your mind rest. www.hilbo.blogspot.com www.irishcomicnews.com
Quick doodle on Pathfinder and 3 of the characters in it that a group of us play when we can. We are all beginners, and it shows…terribly. Plus, the dice throws have been ridiculous the last while and when fighting off goblins a roll of 10 or less really does suck balls. Still a ton […]
I know, I know…between him and Wolverine, how many times can he be drawn for a noodle? Well to be honest I tend to shy away from doodling some of the main superhero heads simply because I am crap at drawing them. So I thought as a challenge I’d try it out for this weeks […]
Penelope Pitstop in a more modern sense this week. Instead of a car she has a nifty bike and is escaping from the Hooded Claw and not a single Ant Hill Mob member in sight as per usual. She is trained in martial arts however (in my own mind that is) and can do a […]
